How To Keep Your Weight Loss ResolutionAt the start of each New Year, there are millions who resolve to lose weight and through the month January, many throng to the packed gyms, trying to get rid of excessive poundage.

They promise to they will start going to the gym on a regular basis, including imposing strict supervision of their overall eating habits.

Diet resolutions, amongst the most popular are set by everyone wishing to lose weight, as fitness centres fill up and restaurants sell more salads than food. Advertisement for diet supplements, exercise equipment and Spandex active wear are to be seen everywhere.

However, while fitness resolutions are made afresh at the start of each New Year, not many of us are able to remain with them, once winter is over.

Nathan York, a certified fitness trainer with Gold’s Gym in York says, dedication to your goal is important, as otherwise not only will the results of gymming come slower, eventually one will also feel like dropping out.

According to trainers, only 30% of those who commit themselves to losing weight in the New Year, are still coming to the gym on a regular basis come December. They are the one’s whose set goals, keep motivating them to uphold their New Year’s resolution of losing weight by visiting the gym regularly.

York says even missing a day or week can cause a setback, with the gym put on the back burner.

For some it’s a working out with a friend or partner that keeps them motivated, as they feel they will be letting the other down. But, trainers say along with that support, set another goal and when that is achieved, set a new one.

York believes, if one can commit to a straight 21-days of fitness, one can commit for the rest of the time, learning to fit it into one’s schedule.

And, since results take time, don’t be disappointed if you do not look like your trainer overnight.

Along with exercise, one must maintain a healthy diet, as trainers believe a bad diet cancels all the hard work put in at the gym.

Dietitians specializing in adult weight management stress the need for a one-week-at-a-time approach to healthy eating, such as, setting a new behaviour standard for each week e. g. using smaller plates, reducing one’s soda intake, or trying out some new fruit or vegetable.

Small changes that offer big rewards, as cutting just 100-calories, or burning an extra 100-calories each day, means a 10-lb. weight loss a year.

Boosting your vegetable intake, trying out new and healthy cuisines, such as, Japanese, Indian, Greek and Middle Eastern cuisines, watching your portion size, planning a healthy meal before dining out, will any help you keep your New Year’s resolution of losing weight.
